Certification and registration renew separately
Your written certification (valid 1 year for adults, 3 months for patients under 18) and your MCA patient registration (valid 6 years) are two different things on two different clocks. This page covers certification renewal with us — your MCA registration is managed separately through the state.

Common questions
My certification already expired — can I still renew?
Yes. There's no need to start over as a brand-new patient. We can issue an updated certification during a renewal visit even if your previous one has lapsed.
How is renewal different from my MCA state registration?
Your written certification and your Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA) patient registration renew on separate schedules — certification is valid 1 year for adults (3 months for patients under 18), while state registration lasts 6 years. Renewing with us only covers the certification; check your MCA account separately for your registration status.
How early can I schedule a renewal visit?
Whenever works for you — many patients renew a few weeks before expiration to avoid any lapse in dispensary access. We also send a reminder about a month before your certification is set to expire.
Is the renewal visit as thorough as my first certification?
It's more focused — a shorter follow-up rather than a full initial evaluation — but we still review your medications and confirm cannabis is still an appropriate part of your care.
